  • SRT SOLUTIONS BRINGS LIGHTNING TALKS TO ANN ARBOR

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 20, 2008 – ANN ARBOR, MICH. –

SRT Solutions is hosting lightning talks at its Ann Arbor office, 206 S. Fifth Avenue, Suite 200, every other Friday from 3-5 p.m. Primarily focused on technology, lightning talks provide each participant a 10 minute open forum to offer news, challenges, or resources for discussion. SRT Solutions will host its next lightning talk on February 29.

"Lightning talks mirror the pace of technology's evolution: The industry moves quickly and you have to continually learn to maintain an innovative edge," explained SRT Solutions co-founder Dianne Marsh. "Lightning talk participants can bring up anything that they might want to know more about or discuss, providing a true collaborative forum and a resource for staying on top of advancements and opportunities."

The limited time each participant is offered to speak helps to develop presentation skills, even for accomplished speakers. Lightning talks also offer participants exposure to a range of topics, including tech experiences, tips, techniques, successes and failures.

"Lightning talks provide education about the latest geek topics and experience expressing myself in front of a group," explained participant Bill Heitzeg, vice president of technology, Summit Mobile Solutions. "Because lightning talks are kept to 10 minutes per participant, the audience gets a short, concise overview of any one topic. Also, because the topics are self-selected, we get an amazing variety of topics, from Braille to the best Podcasts, and I've learned about topics I'm sure I would never have sought out on my own."

"As a speaker, every two weeks I'm excited to come up with a cool topic and, most importantly, present it well," Heitzeg added. "I think I've improved as a speaker and I am certainly more comfortable in front of a group as a result of participating in lightning talks."

Lightning talks at SRT Solutions are free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.SRTSolutions.com.

  • SRT SOLUTIONS HOSTS “SUITS & GEEKS” OPEN SPACES EVENT AT AUTOMATION ALLEY

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – OCTOBER 4, 2007 – ANN ARBOR, MICH. –

On Tuesday, November 6, from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., SRT Solutions will host "Suits and Geeks: Bridging the Technology Divide," an Open Spaces event, at Automation Alley. Open Spaces forums, dubbed the 'Unconference' by BusinessWeek, allow attendees to specify the day's content and direction, taking full advantage of the expertise of the group.

"Suits and Geeks" is designed to help bridge the communication divide between management and technologists in order to create technology solutions that drive business forward. This open spaces event will help technologists learn how to convince business managers why new hardware and software is actually good for business. Business managers will learn how to convince technologists to be more receptive to market timing and positioning.

"Great technology leaders and great business leaders want the same thing: To create a successful business that succeeds in the marketplace," explained Bill Wagner, co-founder, SRT Solutions. "Technology initiatives fail because management and technologists don't connect with how they talk about business issues. This open spaces event is designed to remedy the communication disconnect by providing a forum for discussion where technologists and business leaders alike can learn about the impact of technology, and how it can be best implemented in an individual enterprise."

The event will kick off with an introduction from Wagner, and Dianne Marsh, SRT Solutions' co-founder, including direction on how the open spaces event will proceed throughout the day. Three separate rooms will serve as forums for discussions on topics decided by attendees, focused on bridging communication divides between technologists and management. Participants will set the day's agenda, lead the discussions, and share problems and solutions.

  • SRT Solutions Growth Leads to New Ann Arbor Offices

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 – ANN ARBOR, MICH. –

On September 25 from 4-6 p.m., SRT Solutions will open the doors of its new office at 206 N. Fifth Street, Suite 200, in Ann Arbor. Prior to this, SRT has worked in home offices, met in local coffee shops, and at the Ann Arbor IT Zone. The company's growth and desire to provide a meeting space for area user groups were the catalyst for SRT's move to this space.

"We've reached a place in our business where it's important to have our own space to meet and work with our team members, and to hire additional staff. Having the space will also enable us to hold technical events and to host the different groups that are the basis of collaboration and new ideas within our industry," explained Dianne Marsh, who, in 2000, co-founded SRT Solutions with Bill Wagner. "This new space is meant to support SRT's growth as well as the growth of our colleagues and peers throughout the local software community."

SRT Solutions' new office space includes a large, central meeting space where they can host seminars, user groups and other gatherings. Adjacent to the meeting space are two conference rooms for breakout sessions or smaller client engagements, as well as a large office that Marsh and Wagner share.

With the community in mind, SRT is also planning to open part of the space to "coworking", which is often defined as community office space. "Coworking space brings together developers who work for different companies, and is often most attractive to the home office-based consultant, offering the traditional amenities of an office, but at a shared price," Marsh explained. "Rather than being centered around the needs of a company, the space is designed with the technical developer in mind. The opportunity to get together with other developers and to simply share ideas in a casual environment is compelling".

SRT Solutions began as a network of highly-skilled software developers and engineers who joined Marsh and Wagner to develop corporate software teams who needed assistance with projects. Since that time, the business has evolved from Marsh and Wagner's initial group to include 5 full-time software experts on the SRT Solutions team. The company has plans to add additional staff based on the needs of the business.

Marsh and Wagner, in addition to their accomplishments with SRT Solutions, are noted speakers and experts in the software community. Marsh, and Wagner, who is a regional director for Microsoft, are frequent speakers on optimizing business performance through software innovations, programming languages and the .Net platform.

In keeping with SRT Solutions' desire to make the office space available to local IT groups, it recently welcomed its use by the Michigan Python User Group and the Ann Arbor .NET developer group, and the Ann Arbor Computer Society will meet there starting in October. Additionally, SRT Solutions routinely host lightning talks and Open Spaces forums that bring together IT experts and technologists from around the region.
